Türkiye starts e-Devlet age verification for social networks on 1 November 2026
A regulation published in the Official Gazette on 10 October 2026 makes age checks through e-Devlet mandatory for new social network accounts from 1 November 2026.
According to a ShiftDelete.Net report dated 31 October 2026, Türkiye's Presidency of Cyber Security issued a statement on age verification for social networks through e-Devlet. The regulation published in the Official Gazette on 10 October 2026 takes effect on 1 November 2026; new accounts must be verified from that date and existing accounts by 31 March 2027.
ShiftDelete.Net reported on 31 October 2026 that Türkiye's Presidency of Cyber Security has confirmed age verification on social networks will be done only through e-Devlet, the state's online services portal. The basis is a regulation on child-specific services and age verification by social network providers, published in the Official Gazette (Resmi Gazete) on 10 October 2026. It rests on Law No. 7578, which bans social network services for children under 15, and takes effect on 1 November 2026.
- Children under 15 will not be able to open new accounts, and existing accounts of users found to be under 15 will be closed.
- Users aged 15 to 18 can keep their accounts, but with stricter child-specific settings, and adults will also have to verify their age.
- Verification is mandatory for new accounts from 1 November 2026; existing users have until 31 March 2027.
- Users will create a verification token in e-Devlet. The token only shows whether the 15 and 18 age thresholds are met; platforms will not see the user's identity details, ID number or date of birth.
Why it matters
The rule covers every domestic and foreign social network provider that can be reached from Türkiye. Platforms must offer separate services for children, apply high privacy and security standards and provide parental control tools. Companies that run apps with user communities, comments or messaging may want to check with legal advisers whether their services fall within this scope. According to the report, the step-by-step technical process has not been published yet; details will be shared gradually through official channels and the platforms.
According to the report, only turkiye.gov.tr and the official e-Devlet mobile app should be used for verification, and the Presidency warned users not to give their e-Devlet password or SMS verification codes to anyone. Companies that want to warn staff about fake verification messages can use this advice in internal notices.
