On October 27, 2026, SAP announced new tools for AI developers at its TechEd conference in Berlin. Joule Studio offers a choice of more than 70 models, and third-party agents can call Joule agents through a gateway with access control. Select customers can run their custom agents at no charge until the end of December 2026.
At its annual SAP TechEd conference in Berlin on October 27, 2026, SAP announced new AI agent and developer tools in a press release on the SAP News Center. SAP chief technology officer Philipp Herzig said the company is moving from AI learning a business to running it. According to ERP Today, some of the announcements are already rolling out in phases, while others are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.
- Joule Work plans and runs multistep workflows across SAP systems and works through open protocols such as Agent2Agent (A2A) and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Joule Studio offers no-code and pro-code tools with a choice of more than 70 AI models, and new observability tools show agent behavior, model usage and spend.
- Third-party agents can call Joule agents through a gateway with enforced access control, and the SAP Enterprise AI Gateway, planned for the first quarter of 2027 according to ERP Today, will handle authentication, policy, routing, monitoring and auditing of AI traffic in one place.
- Select customers can run custom agents on the SAP-managed Joule Studio runtime at no charge until the end of December 2026, and a new governance assistant was announced for EU AI Act compliance.
Why it matters
As reported by ERP Today, Ted Way, vice president and chief product officer of SAP Business AI Product Engineering, told SAPinsider that customers do not run all of their processes on SAP, so agent interoperability is critical. Letting agents from different vendors reach SAP processes through a governed entry point could give manufacturers and distributors in Türkiye a new option when they connect existing CRM, e-commerce or warehouse software to SAP. Companies exporting to the EU may also want to follow the governance tools aimed at the EU AI Act. ERP Today notes that no price was given for the Enterprise AI Gateway.
