Microsoft published results on 28 October 2026 for the quarter that ended on 30 September 2026, the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year. According to the press release filed with the SEC, revenue rose 19 percent to 92.3 billion dollars, operating income rose 21 percent to 45.9 billion dollars and net income rose 32 percent to 36.6 billion dollars.

  • Microsoft Cloud revenue grew 30 percent to 63.9 billion dollars.
  • Microsoft 365 commercial cloud revenue rose 17 percent, or 18 percent in constant currency; Microsoft 365 consumer cloud revenue also grew 17 percent.
  • Azure revenue rose 48 percent to 33.2 billion dollars.
  • Windows OEM and devices revenue fell 22 percent.

This quarter the company reported under two new segments announced in September 2026: "Agents and Infra", whose revenue rose 25 percent to 76.8 billion dollars, and "Devices and Consumer", whose revenue fell 3 percent to 15.5 billion dollars. Prior periods were recast to match the new structure.

Why it matters

For companies that use Microsoft 365 for e-mail, file sharing and meetings, the 17 percent rise in commercial cloud revenue may indicate that business spending on these services is still growing. Reorganising reporting around an "Agents and Infra" segment can also be read as a sign of Microsoft's priorities. For IT managers, one practical step could be to review plan contents, unused licences and the cost of AI add-ons together at each licence renewal.
