In short

On 6 October 2026, Google and Constellation Energy announced a 20-year power purchase agreement that adds 890 MW of new nuclear capacity to the US PJM grid. Google also signed a separate 15-year supply agreement for 2,700 MW from the existing fleet.

Google and US energy company Constellation Energy announced a 20-year power purchase agreement on 6 October 2026, in a release published on Google Cloud Press Corner. The deal adds 890 MW of new nuclear capacity to the PJM grid through efficiency upgrades at 11 Constellation nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The first added capacity is expected by 2028.

  • Google also signed a separate 15-year energy supply agreement for an additional 2,700 MW from Constellation's existing PJM fleet.
  • Constellation will invest more than 4.3 billion dollars, and the deal is expected to create about 7,200 construction jobs.
  • The deal also includes demand flexibility steps that cut back non-critical power use when the grid is under strain.
  • Under an expanded five-year technology alliance, Constellation will also use Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise in areas such as asset health monitoring, outage management and protecting operational technology networks.

Why it matters

The companies present the deal as a direct response to PJM's "Bring Your Own Power" proposal, and Google ties it to its commitment to add the capacity its growth needs without passing costs on to residential customers. According to the release, the deal is also meant to support the rapid growth of AI and digital infrastructure. For companies in Türkiye that use cloud services, this could be a sign that providers' energy sources and carbon reports will come up more often in supplier reviews and sustainability reporting.

  • 890 MW of new nuclear capacity will be added to the PJM grid under a 20-year deal.
  • A 15-year supply agreement covers another 2,700 MW.
  • The first added capacity is expected by 2028.
